William M “Bill” Benton 1924-2013
William Marvin Benton,"Bill", 88, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2013, with family by his side. He was born on November 21, 1924, in Milton, Florida, the son of Cary and Minnie Benton. He has been a native of Pensacola since 1928. Bill enjoyed life to the fullest. In his younger days, he was a Championship roller skater. He loved music, dancing and enjoyed playing the organ. He always had his hands into odd jobs over the years. Cleaning shopping carts, phone booths, driving the taxi cabs and being an automotive parts salesman was only a few of the jobs he encountered. When he worked in Louisiana, he was excited to be on board one of the largest airplanes made. At home, one of his enjoyments was keeping his yard cleaned. He loved being outside with his mower and took pride on keeping his yard manicured. Bill was a member of the Keyboard Club of Pensacola, Florida, and Myrtle Grove Baptist Church of Pensacola. He thoroughly enjoyed attending his Sunday School class. He had sincere feelings for the many friends he came in to contact with at Church, his neighbors and his "family" at Happy China and Captain D's. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Cary and Minnie Benton, his sister, Anna Mae Roachvade, two brothers, Auburn A. Benton and Rupurt "Boots" W. Benton, his son Mike Benton. He is survived by his loving wife, Emily "Lu" Benton, two sons, Ray Benton and Kenny Benton and his stepson, Jim (Barbara) Steward, his sister Frances Didday, of Pensacola. He had several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will be always in our heart and will be missed. Visitation will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Pine Forest Road on Friday, February 1, 2013, at 12:00 PM with a Service following at 1:00 PM, with Jim Negretti, officiating. Interment will be at Bayview Memorial Gardens on Scenic Highway following the service.
