Ray Fortner Sr 1924-2016
Mr. Ray Donald Fortner, Sr. went home to be with his Lord Nov. 16, 2016. Ray was a devoted family man who will be missed by all who knew him. He was a role model to all he met. Ray was born on Aug. 3, 1924 in Live Oak, FL. Ray graduated from Suwanee County High School, served in the U. S. Navy and U. S. Marine Corps during WWII. He went on to graduate from University of Florida. Ray was a teacher, pharmaceutical rep., State Probation Officer and Chief U. S. Probation Officer for the Northern District of FL (23 counties). After retirement Ray was a Seasonal Park Ranger. Ray loved Model A Fords, woodworking, making knives and authored 5 books. He was always generous with his time and talents. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Levi Parker Fortner and Mae Irene Baxter Fortner; granddaughter, Heather Rainbow Fortner; and stepsons, Richard and William Law. Left to honor his memory, his devoted wife Betty; sons, Ray D. Fortner, Jr, Alan Parker (Paula) Fortner and Timothy Shane Fortner; daughter, Robyn Lois Fortner Ingram (Dale); brother, Jesse James Fortner, his son Bruce Fortner & daughter, Maureen Godwin; stepdaughter, Robin Law (Tim) Hukill; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2016 at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Freddie Zayas officiating. Inurnment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity in Ray’s name.
