Earl Boyd 1929-2016
Earl Barksdale Boyd, 87, died Sunday, September 4, 2016 at his home in Pensacola.  He leaves his wife of 66 years, Gypsy Dean (Laney), youngest brother Clifton Eugene, sons, Steven (Sandy), Dale (Cathy), Philip, grandchildren, Adam, Brittany, Brandon, Eason, Keith, Madeline, Falen, and newest great-granddaughter, Gypsy Delany. Barksdale was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Fred, Astor, Russell, Johnny, and sister Velita. Born in Blakely, GA, the son of Lee and Dan Boyd, Barksdale attended school in Houston County Alabama, where he met the love of his life and married after graduation. He got his draft notice the day after he was wed. He spent the next eighteen months overseas in Germany before coming home to start life with Gypsy. Moving to Pensacola, he started work at Chemstrand (Monsanto) for 35 years as a foreman in Intermediates. He retired in 1985.Earl and Gypsy raised their family at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church where they have been members for over fifty years. Earl served as a deacon since 1985. Barksdale enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf, and coaching boys baseball at Myrtle Grove Community Club. He was an avid golfer and played many years at Chemstrand (later Monsanto) golf course. He scored the first hole-in-one recorded on that course in 1963.  Barksdale made many lasting friendships playing golf in the Pensacola area. Barksdale’s biggest enjoyment in life was being surrounded by family and having family cookouts and get- togethers. One of the most memorable things he ever told his sons was, ”If you have seen me do it, you can do it.” Visitation will be 11:30-12:30 PM, followed by the Funeral Service at 12:30 on Thursday, September 8, at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
