Clyde W Summitt  1927-2014
Clyde W. Summitt 86, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2014 into the arms of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Clyde was born August 27, 1927 in Pauls Valley, OK. He joined the service at an early age and entered the Navy's Mid-Shipmen program in 1948 at Pensacola NAS where he met the love of his life Betty Fulford whom he married in 1954. He received his wings in 1949 and flew in the Korean war earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. After many medals and years of service he retired in Pensacola. Not one to rest, he coached for 13 years at Workman Middle School. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Summitt, mother Lillian Pyler Summitt, brothers J.D. Summitt, Bill Summitt, sisters Fannie Little and Eva Barker and a son Mark M. Summitt. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Betty, son Gary ( Kency) Summitt, grandson Garrett Summitt. And a special sister and brother in law Muriel and Preston Baswell. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Ron Lentine, will be held at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 12:30pm with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow with military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Brock, Jerry Barbie, Preston Baswell, Sandy Sanders, Wayne Baswell and Lewis Baswell. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to CovenantHospice.org 5041 N. 12th Ave. Pensacola, FL 32504 and Alzheimer's Assoc of NWFL 1901 N. Palafox Pensacola, FL 32501. A special thank you to Clyde's caregivers who showed so much love and compassion through those last years of his Alzheimer's: Diane Fillingim, Lisa Roscom, Henrietta Williams, Beverly Brooks, Ebony Holmes, Renna Etters, Kisiah (Kay) Page and Sue Shumate. A special thank you to the Hospice nurses who went well beyond their duties: Karen Hayden, Ardelia Cathings, Peggy Cooper, Orlando Carabollo, Danny Rainey and Deundrea Pritchett. Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
