Mitchell Davis  1930-2014
Mitchell Dae Davis of Pensacola, FL went home to be with his Heavenly Father February 16, 2014. He was 83 years old. Mitch was preceded in death by his parents Junie and Inez Davis of Louisville, Mississippi and a nephew Clifford Whitt. Mitch is survived by his wife of 54 years Lois Jean Clark Davis and a son Rev. Edward B. Davis, daughter- in-law Kimberly Anacker Davis and two granddaughters Kaitlin and Ashley Davis of Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by his brother Orris (Marie) Da vis and brother-in-law Tom (Dianne) Clark of McCalla, AL plus nieces and nephews. Mitch was a native of Winston County Mississippi but lived the past 56 years in Pensacola. He once said, once the sand got in his shoes he could not leave. He graduated High School in Louisville, MS, attended East Central Junior College and earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. He served his country in the 1st Calvarly Divisions 7th Regiment during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from Korea and earning his degree in education he spent the next 35 years of his life teaching history and other duties at Escambia High School, Pensacola, FL. Mitch was on the original staff at EHS. Along with his love of teaching he enjoyed doing crafts (wood working), gardening, playing his guitar and singing. He shared his crafts and produce with his many friends and neighbors. Mitch loved his church and church family. He served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and member, choir member, both worship choir and Golden Echoes and served on numerous committees at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church where he had been a member since 1958. He also did volunteer work in the Family Life Center for a number of years. Services will be held at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at12:30PM with Rev. Ron Lentine and Rev. Ed Davis officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services begin at 11:30AM. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Tan of the Woodlands Center and all the nurses on the 6th floor of West Florida Hospital also the nurses and staff at West Florida Covenant Hospices for their care and support during this time.
Memorial gifts may be made to Myrtle Grove Baptist Church Food Pantry. Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
