Rev Dick Hamel Dick Hamel Minister of Music   Rev. Richard (Dick) Hamel is a native Floridian.  He is married to Valerie, also a south Florida native, whom he met while in high school.  Dick graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic with a BA in Sacred Music.  He responded to God’s call to the ministry of worship as he was attending community college, studying for law enforcement.   He began serving the Lord before finishing college.  Thoughts of attending seminary were displaced by the reality of one of Dick’s greatest cheerleaders, daughter Amy.   Shortly after Amy arrived, Dick was called to his first full time ministry position in Plant City, Florida, at the ripe old age of 23. Three years later, Dick’s joy was doubled with the arrival of son, Matthew.  Amy and Matt worked alongside their papa as they grew to adulthood and now serve the Lord in their areas of giftedness in the performing arts. Serving Florida Baptist Churches for over 40 years with a primary focus of worship through music and the performing arts, Dick has been blessed to also serve as youth pastor and senior adult pastor in previous experiences.  He believes in the power of an Almighty God who is worthy of worship and the first commandment; to the love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.  Dick accepted the call to Myrtle Grove in May of 1999 and lives in the Myrtle Grove community, down the street or around the corner from where many of our fellowship. Dick has participated in the Florida Baptist Worship Choir for much of his ministry and has been a member of the Florida Baptist Church Music Conference since the beginning of his career.  He derives great satisfaction from being a mentor of young leaders, regardless of their area of giftedness.  He believes that everyone can share in the joy of worship. Dick is energized by time spent with people he loves – the people of God , his wife, his adult children, their spouses, and grandchildren.  If you want to see Dick smile, ask him “How’s Aidan these days?”
Dick has a few basic rules if a person wants to be part of the music program:  You must be able to read and write your own name (waived for preschool choir). You must be able to count to four (also waived for preschool choir).  You must have a God given desire to lead in the worship experience (in other words, you gotta want to be there)
