Pauline was an adventurous and curious child and loved sharing memories from her childhood with anyone who would listen. She loved learning and school and was very bright. Around the time her daddy died she was offered the opportunity to attend a special girls school on scholarship in Selma. However, due to her daddy's death she had to stay at home in Orrville to help her mother sharecrop and raise children. She was forced to quit school at that time but never ceased to learn. Through her love of reading and by ordering books that people used to study for high school degrees she continued to be self-taught throughout her life. She gained knowledge and the wisdom to apply it. At nineteen she married A. L. Kelley and together they raised five children and regularly had nieces and nephews staying with them. Her youngest son taught her to drive when he was 15. She was a hardworking woman with many jobs along the way but most of her work was in the textile industry as a seamstress. She loved cooking for her family and friends. She taught her children and grandchildren so much through the years about working hard, telling the truth and persevering. Her stories brought both laughter and wisdom through the years. She leaves a legacy of faith and love and laughter built over an entire century of life. Special thanks to Dr. Busenlehner, Dr. Hickman, the staff of Emerald Cost Hospice and the precious Christian ladies who took care of Pauline and became like family. Pallbearers will be Roy Kelley, Frank Kelley, David Kelley, Burgess Pate, Robert Lancaster, Bobby Joe Lancaster, John Smelley, Jr., Charles Smelley, Eddie Smelley and Ralph Wheat.
