James Comerford
1928-2017 James Lawrence Comerford, 88, of Pensacola, FL went to be with the Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 after a prolonged illness. Jim was born in San Diego, CA and moved to Pensacola when he was 10. After graduating from Pensacola High School, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. Jim enlisted in the Air Force when he was 20, beginning a 27 year career of distinguished military service that included tours in Korea, the Aleutian Islands, Japan, Africa, VietNam, the Philippines, and many places stateside. He retired as an Air Force Chief Master Sergeant in 1975 and returned to the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 17 more years. Jim was a strong proponent of education. He completed two years of undergraduate courses while on active duty in the Air Force and went on to earn a BA in business management from the University of West Florida and a MS in business management from Troy University. He was a very active member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Jim was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents. Thad A. Comerford and Anna Lawrence Comerford; infant grandson, Robert John Kashur Jr.; sisters, LaVonne Brigham and Sybil Steven. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Jacquelyn Whitley Comerford; daughter, LaFawn “Cricket” (Bob) Kashur; son, Larry Comerford, M.D.; grandchildren, Kate (Daniel) Traylor, Phillip Kashur, Ashley Comerford, Beau (Kara) Comerford, James Comerford, and Jake Comerford; great- grandchildren, Isaac, Malachi, Gideon, and Naomi Comerford; special cousin, Vada Merle Byrd; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom he dearly loved. Pallbearers are Donnie Ard, Matt Brigham, Robert Brigham, Ron Brigham, Bill Day and Neil Summerford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation or the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church Building Fund. Visitation will be Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, Monday, August 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Ron Lentine officiating.
