Emily Lulaine “Lu” Stephens Steward Benton, 91, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017, at her home in Pensacola, Florida, with her loved ones. Lu was born in Dublin, Georgia, on April 15, 1926 to Harvey and Rosetta Stephens. Lu attended Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of the Shimron Temple #133 Daughters of the Nile, where she enjoyed being a part of the “Choralettes” and participating in fund raisers and other events. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Lu enjoyed working at the Medical Center and helping everyone she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Rosetta Stephens; her first love, Joe Steward; and she sadly lost her second true love, Bill Benton; her daughter, Karen Steward; son, Bill Steward; and brother, Frank Stephens. Lu is survived by her son, Jim (Barbara) Steward; stepson, Kenny Benton; sister, Joyce; 10 loving grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be missed by everyone. Lu had a special part of life she enjoyed sharing with others. She enjoyed taking walks, gardening, going out to eat, and dressing up for special events and holidays. She loved to have fun and be with people. She was a special person with a unique love for her family and friends. Pensacola Memorial Gardens is entrusted with the arrangements. The Steward Family wants to express their thanks once again to the blessed and special people that assisted mom and was a part of our lives these past few months. Everyone at Covenant Care has a special place in our heart and we are so grateful for you being there with us and mom. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Covenant Care of Pensacola. The family will receive friends for visitation at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 5-7PM Monday, June 12th. Funeral service will take place at 12:00PM Tuesday at the funeral home with interment to follow in Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
